Biography

Volker Wannack is a post-doctoral Research Associate within the research group Bremen Energy Research.

His main research interest is regulation, network investment and vertical unbundling. In his Ph.D., he analysed investment incentives of electricity network operators under cost-and incentive based regulatory regimes. In addition, he also looked at the implementation of mechanisms within incentive based regulatory regimes which create more welfare optimal investments. Question whether theoretical welfare maximizing quality regulation guarantees replacement of electricity network operator assets at the welfare maximizing point in time is also addressed.

During his study and research he gained a lot of valuable work- and teaching experience: He worked at Bremer Energie Institut (in connection with his Ph.D. thesis), PriceWaterhouseCoopers (in connection with his diploma thesis), Vattenfall Europe Generation AG & Co. KG (in connection with his “Studienarbeit”) and at envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG. Furthermore he has been Research- and Teaching Assistant at the department of European Utility Management at Jacobs UniversityBremen, “Lehrstuhl Energieverteilung und Hochspannungstechnik” and “Lehrstuhl für Allgemeine Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Besondere des Rechnungswesens und Controlling“ at the Brandenburgischen Technischen Universität Cottbus.

Volker holds a Ph.D. (Dr.) in Energy Economics at Jacobs University Bremen and a diploma in Industrial Engineering (focus: Power Supply Engineering and Management) at the Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus (Germany). Furthermore he studied System Dynamics at the University of Bergen (Norway).
